Is Keto Diet Safe, Healthy, and Worth it?
You’ve probably heard the phrase a lot but have no idea what it means. Your friends are all talking about it. Chances are, someone on your Facebook feed has posted a picture of some dramatic weight loss, giving credit to something called a ‘keto diet.’ But what is it? Is the keto diet safe?

Bodies run on fuel. Usually, that fuel is found in blood sugar or glucose, which comes from the food we put into our mouths? But the body can also run an alternative fuel called ‘ketones.’ Ketones are made in the liver, from fat.
The Ketogenic Diet then is a method by which we convince the body to switch gears – that instead of running the body on blood glucose, instead, it works off the fat stores, turning them into ketones, which then do the job of running the body instead.
What is Ketosis?
The problem is, it’s not as easy as you think to convince the brain to switch gears and start using ketones over glucose. The only way to get there is through a process called ‘ketosis.’
Ketosis happens when we fast. But we can’t last forever (not without keeling over), and so we have to use different methods to get us where we want to go.
How to Achieve Ketosis?
In the Keto Diet, we reduce the carbohydrates coming into the body, because, quite simply, carbs become sugar when digested. By cutting carbs down exponentially to very low amounts and then increasing fat intake (with a focus on the good fats, not the bad kind), you can convince your body to go into ketosis without fasting at all. So, it makes sense then that there are specific things you can eat on a keto diet, and also particular things to avoid.
We start by dropping the GPS – Grains / Potatoes/ Starches. And then put our focus on fresh fruits and veggies (though careful of the carbs) and the good fats, especially those found in proteins (various meats) and nuts and dairy.
With so many fad diets out there trying to convince you that they’re the one right path to losing weight, the Ketogenic Diet comes out as being one of the more logical choices. Based on the actual chemistry of your body, it just makes sense. And the success stories can’t be argued with. This makes keto diet safe and healthy. What Would That Look Like Eating The Way Your Ancestors Used To Eat?
When you consider what your ancestors did not have, namely processed food, you can see what that might look like. The food around was that which was readily available such as berries, wild animals, and vegetables that are easy to grow like spinach, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.
Because it was hard to catch food, they also had to ensure everything they ate was as high in fat as possible so that they could keep on enough weight to be healthy. But not fake fat, of course – healthy fat from fruit like coconut oil and olive oil.
Some people also enjoy ghee, which is clarified butter, in this plan. That’s the other thing that is awesome about the ketogenic lifestyle; you do have lots of leeway in what you eat if it follows the main goals, which are to eat low carb, high fat, and moderate protein most of the time.
What does Processed food have?
Processed food is full of refined sugars, unhealthy fats, and chemicals that no one can pronounce and will leave you unsatisfied, always craving more. And guess what; it’s not your fault if you still want more. They made the food that way.
The food you’re eating is designed to cause cravings. Processed food is made to hook you on it, just like opiates. The food scientists know the exact combinations of fat, salt, and sugar to hook you. They’ve found the formula to make every meal into a drug. What’s worse is that this drug will make you fat, unhealthy, prone to diabetes, and you’ll likely die earlier than you otherwise would.
Even when you think you’re eating small amounts of food called “diet” food, you can be fat and very unhealthy. Thin people who are eating a fully processed diet are also very harmful and prone to illness.
What Makes Keto Diet a Lifestyle?
You know now how that keto diet is safe and healthier can be compared to processed food. How can you transition it from a diet to a lifestyle?
A ketogenic lifestyle consists of eating the ketogenic way: low carb, high healthy fat, and moderate protein 99 percent of the time – even if it’s your birthday. What does it mean to eat ketogenic, though?
Well, you eat in such a way that your body produces ketones. Don’t worry, this is not scary; in fact, ketones can protect your brain from Alzheimer’s and other problems, such as brain fog and memory.
Diseases manifest differently in everyone. Thankfully, the ketogenic diet has become more mainstream. People are taking to it and getting healthier. They’re getting healthier because it’s simple. They don’t have to think too hard to know whether they can have that food or not.
Due to this fact, it makes it easy for the ketogenic way of eating to become a full-on lifestyle. That’s good, because one thing that can ensure that people change for life, and make eating keto a habit, is to turn it into a lifestyle.
When you know you’re going to live this way forever, that you’re not taking breaks, and that you’re not doing it for just the next few weeks until the big party, then you tend to stick to a healthier way of eating because it’s just normal and natural.
